On 1/10/2024, we started our activities related to Measure-X, in the context of the Target-X project.
Measure-X is a tool for carrying out 5G measurements with multiple devices and traffic profiles.
Measure-X allows for the network to be characterized not only according to classical metrics, such as round trip time, jitter, throughput, and packet loss, but also by providing information about the energy spent during communication by client devices. Such information is particularly relevant as in several 5G usage scenarios, the monitoring infrastructure also includes battery-powered mobile nodes, and cellular communication can be one of the main energy drains. Measure-X also evaluates the Age of Information (AoI), an end-to-end metric particularly useful whenever the availability of fresh information is paramount. Measure-X relies on nodes (one or more) able to generate traffic according to models able to represent the different communication patterns and styles found in the 5G usage scenarios (from sensor collecting and sending scalar values with a given rate, to cameras producing a video stream). Both metrics can be extremely useful across the 5G ecosystem.
